Can I require a PIN for tap purchases on my Float card?
Physical CAD and USD Float cards do not currently support requiring a PIN for tap (contactless) payments. For added security, we recommend using chip-and-PIN instead of tap when making purchases.
Some US merchants may prompt for a PIN when using a USD Virtual card. For instructions on setting a PIN for your USD Virtual card, please see our USD Card FAQ.
Where can I see the PIN for my card?
You can view your PIN in both the Float web application and mobile app.
See: Viewing a Physical Float Card's PIN
How can I change my PIN?
For the instructions to reset your PIN, please see: Resetting a PIN on a Physical Card.
What is the tap limit for physical cards before they must be inserted at a terminal?
The tap limit for physical cards is typically $250, but this is determined by the merchant, not by Float. The exact limit may vary depending on the merchant’s own settings.
Can I turn off the ability for a card to be used for tap-to-pay purchases?
No, it isn't possible to turn off tap-to-pay or to otherwise restrict the methods of payment available to a Float card.
What information is printed on a physical Float card and how can I change it?
The following information is printed on a physical Float card:
- The Spender’s legal name (maximum of 21 characters)
- The business’s DBA name (maximum of 21 characters)
To edit a Spender's legal name or your business' DBA name, please contact Support at support@floatfinancial.com.
Any updates made to a spender’s legal name or the business’s DBA name will only appear on newly issued cards. Cards that were issued prior to the change will not reflect the updated information.
Please note: Once a card has been issued and shipped, the printed name details cannot be modified. To reflect updated information, a replacement card can be created.
How many physical cards can I create for my business?
Businesses on Float's Essentials Plan can issue up to 20 physical cards.
Businesses on Float's Professional and Enterprise Plans can issue unlimited physical cards.
How many physical cards can a user have?
Users can request one physical card per currency. If necessary, Administrators can create additional physical cards in the same currency for a user.
I've ordered my physical card too late, what should I do?
Some cards may take up to 10 business days to arrive. Virtual cards are ready to use immediately once created and approved, so you may wish to request one while you wait.
How long does it take for a physical card to arrive?
The shipping time for a physical Float card depends on where the card is being delivered. For more information on shipping timelines, see: Physical Card Shipping Timelines.
Can a physical Float card be transferred to another user?
A Physical Float cards can only be used by the person to whom the card is issued and cannot be reassigned.
Can I use my Float physical card while travelling internationally?
Yes, Float cards can be used internationally aside from the countries included in our Blocked Countries List.
Note: If using a CAD-denominated card (Visa) for any non-CAD purchase or a USD-denominated card (Mastercard) for any non-USD purchases, foreign transaction fees will occur. See: What fees are applied to foreign currency card transactions?
Why was my tap transaction declined with "Tap not accepted, please insert chip"?
As a security measure, physical cards will default to require chip insertion when a significant amount of tap transactions have occurred in a certain period. Completing a transaction with your PIN would then allow you to continue to tap for transactions.
For more information on card declines, see: Card Declines: Why They Happen and How to Fix Them.
