Auto-pause is a feature in Float that helps enforce compliance with your organization’s Submission Policies. If a cardholder does not submit required information for their transactions, and the number of policy violations exceeds the allowed limit, the card can be paused automatically.
This article explains how auto-pausing works and how it’s configured by Administrators.
What triggers an auto-pause?
A card will be automatically paused when all of the following conditions are true:
-
The card has a Submission Policy assigned to it
-
That Submission Policy has auto-pause enabled
-
The number of non-compliant transactions on the card is higher than the allowed threshold
A transaction becomes non-compliant when a required field (such as a receipt or GL code) has not been completed within 24 hours of the transaction occurring.
When the number of non-compliant transactions exceeds the policy’s limit, Float will mark the card as Paused – Spend Compliance Policy Violation.
How to set up auto-pause
Auto-pause is configured within a Submission Policy by a Float Administrator.
To enable auto-pause on a policy:
-
Go to Settings > Submission Policies
-
Click to open an existing policy or create a new one
-
Scroll to the Card Compliance section
-
Toggle on Autopause this Card for Policy Violations
-
Set the maximum number of violations allowed before a card is paused
-
Click Save Policy
Once this is enabled, any card using that Submission Policy will follow the auto-pause rules.
Who can set up auto-pause?
Only Float Administrators can enable or modify auto-pause settings. These settings apply at the policy level but can be overridden for specific cards when needed.
To learn more about overriding auto-pause for a card, see Overriding Auto-Pause on a Specific Card.
What happens when a card is auto-paused?
When a card is paused, the cardholder will be prevented from using the card until the required information is submitted or the violation count drops below the allowed limit. Float will automatically unpause the card once it returns to compliance.
Spenders can view and fix their missing information from either the web app or the mobile app. For details, see Why Is My Card Paused and How Do I Unpause It.
How to check if a card is auto-paused
Administrators and Managers can see the pause status of any card from the Cards page. A paused card will show the reason in the card details pane.
Cardholders will also see a "Transactions missing information link" on their Overview page which leads to the transactions that are missing information.
