As an Administrator, you control which notifications your team receives across Float. Business notification settings determine what users can see and configure in their own notification preferences.
For each notification topic, you can choose one of three states: Optional, Required, or Disabled. Changes take effect immediately and sync to all users in your organization.

Who Can Manage Business Notifications
Only Primary Administrators and Administrators can manage business-level notification settings.
If you're a Manager, AP Clerk, Bookkeeper, or Spender, you can manage your own notification preferences instead. See: How to Manage Your User Notification Preferences
Understanding Notification States
Each notification topic on the Business Notifications page has three states. Use the radio buttons to select the state that applies.
Optional
The notification is available to your team. Users can enable or disable it in their own notification preferences and choose which channels they receive it on (Email, Slack, SMS, or Push).
Use this when the notification is useful but not critical — your team can decide for themselves whether they want it and where.
Required
The notification is mandatory. All users who are eligible to receive it will always receive it via Email. Their Email toggle for this notification will be locked on and cannot be turned off.
Users can still enable additional channels (Slack, SMS, or Push) on top of the required email.
Disabled
The notification is turned off for your entire organization. It will not appear in any user's notification preferences and no one will receive it.
Before disabling, Float will show you how many users are currently receiving the notification and ask you to confirm. Users who were receiving the notification will be notified that it has been turned off.
Use this to reduce noise for notifications that are not relevant to your business.
Please note: Some notifications are mandatory at the system level — such as Account & Security and Compliance notifications (including password resets and KYC/KYB verification). These cannot be set to Disabled.
How to Update a Notification Setting
- Log in to Float as an Administrator and go to Settings > Business Notifications
- Locate the notification topic you want to update
- Select Optional, Required, or Disabled using the toggle buttons
- If selecting Disabled, review the confirmation prompt and confirm your selection
Changes take effect immediately. Users will see the updated state in their notification preferences right away.
Please note: If you are disabling a notification type, a pop-up will appear to confirm that you want to disable the notification for the entire business. Simply click "Disable notification" to confirm.
How Your Settings Affect Users
The state you set at the business level determines what users see when they manage their own notification preferences.
| Business setting | What the user sees |
|---|---|
| Optional | All channel toggles (Email, Slack, SMS, Push) are fully user-controlled |
| Required | Email toggle is locked on with a note: "This notification is required by your organization via Email." Other channels remain user-controlled. |
| Disabled | The notification topic does not appear in the user's notification preferences at all |
