Float for Excel gives your finance team a direct line from Float to the spreadsheet. Connect the add-in with a Float API token, build a View with only the fields you need, and pull your Float data straight into Excel. No CSV downloads, no switching between tools.
It's built for teams who don't use one of Float's accounting integrations (i.e., QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite), and it works on any Float plan.
This guide covers what you can pull into Excel, how to install and connect the add-in, and how to build your first View.
Guide Overview
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What You Can Pull into Excel
Float for Excel supports five data types. Each View pulls one of them:
- Card Transactions — spend on your Float Cards
- Account Transactions — activity on your Float accounts
- Reimbursements — employee reimbursement requests
- Bills — invoices in Bill Pay
- Payments — payments made against Expense Reports and Bills and Send Money
For each View, you choose which fields to include (e.g., amount, currency, transaction type, and more) so the sheet arrives shaped the way you work.
Before You Start
You'll need two things:
- Microsoft Excel — see Supported Excel Versions below
- A Float API token — created by an Administrator in your Float account
Only Administrators in Float can create API tokens. If you're not an Administrator, ask one on your team to create a token for you.
Creating Your Float API Token
- Log in to app.floatfinancial.com as an Administrator
- Click Settings
- Scroll to Business Settings and click Developers
- Click Create API Token
- Copy the token and keep it somewhere safe — you'll paste it into Excel in a moment
For more on what Float's API can do, see Get Started with Float's Public API.
Installing Float for Excel
You can install the add-in two ways.
From the Microsoft marketplace:

From inside Excel:
- Open Excel and go to Add-ins
- Search for Float
- Select Float for Excel
- Click Add
Connecting Float to Excel
Once the add-in is installed, it appears in your Excel ribbon.
- Select the Float add-in to open the task pane.
- Paste your Float API token into the API key field.
- Click Save API Key.
You're connected! The add-in remembers your token, so this is a one-time step.
Building a View
A View is a saved set of instructions: which data to pull, which fields to include, and the date range to cover. You can create as many Views as you need (e.g., one for monthly card spend, another for outstanding Bills, and so on).
- In the Float task pane, create a new View.
- Give it a name, such as Monthly Transactions.
- Choose your data type: Card Transactions, Account Transactions, Reimbursements, Bills, or Payments.
- Select the fields you want to include. Use Select All or Deselect All to move quickly.
- Set the date range you want to pull.
- Click Save View.
Your data populates in the sheet. To change what a View returns, edit it and save again. To remove one, open it and click Delete View.
Supported Excel Versions
Float for Excel works with:
- Excel 2013 or later on Windows
- Excel 2016 or later on Mac
- Excel on Windows (Microsoft 365)
- Excel on Mac (Microsoft 365)

Google Sheets isn't supported at this time.
Keeping Your API Token Secure
Your API token gives access to your business's Float data. Treat it like a password:
- Don't share it over email or chat, and don't paste it into shared documents.
- Manage your tokens in Settings > Business Settings > Developers.
