PIN Reset FAQ
How will I know if the PIN needs to be reset?
A card's PIN will need to be reset if:
A USD card's PIN has been forgotten (CAD card PINs can be viewed through the Float application)
-
You receive a "PIN try limit exceeded" error when attempting a transaction.
The transaction may decline as soon as the card is entered, without providing the opportunity to enter a PIN.
This means that the PIN has been entered incorrectly too many times in the past and is no longer valid.
This is a persistent status that does not expire; once encountered the PIN will no longer work and needs to be reset.
My card was declined as soon as it was inserted, before I even entered the PIN. Why?
Once your card enters a "PIN try limit exceeded" state, the PIN will need to be reset before future PIN-entry transactions can be attempted.
Why do I need to confirm my PIN at a POS?
The confirmation process ensure that the new PIN is securely updated across the card network.
I didn't need three declines — Why?
If you entered incorrect PINs before resetting, the system counts those attempts toward the confirmation process. This can reduce the number of declines required.
What if my PIN still doesn't work?
You are entering the correct new PIN set in the Float portal
You have completed the confirmation process at a POS by re-attempting declined transactions with the new PIN until it is approved.
