Some things to consider when adding cards to your mobile wallet:
- If you are re-adding a previously-added card to your Apple wallet, on the "Add +" screen choose "Debit or Credit Card" instead of "Previous Cards"
- Cards can only be added directly from the wallet app, not from Float or any third-party app
Adding a physical card to a mobile wallet
Please ensure you follow the instructions for adding a card to your phone's mobile wallet (Apple or Google) in the links above. The instructions below are steps to follow once you reach the point of adding your physical card by taking a picture of it.
How to add your physical card to your mobile wallet:
- Tap or hold your card close to your phone (Apple only) to add it, or take a picture of the back of your physical card (Apple & Google)
- You will be prompted for additional authentication to add the card. Follow the prompts on your phone to add your card
Adding a virtual card to a mobile wallet
The instructions below are steps to follow once you reach the point of adding your virtual card to your mobile wallet by taking a photo.
How to add your virtual card to your mobile wallet:
- Login to Float > Cards > select the card you want to add
- Click "Show Details"
- Take a picture of the card details to add it to your wallet
- You will be prompted for additional authentication to add the card. Follow the prompts on your phone to add your card
Card authorization
When adding your Float card to a mobile wallet, the wallet provider may place a minimal charge on your card. This charge will be reversed and appear as a $0 transaction in your Float account, so no receipt or transaction categorization is needed!
Is there a 'tap limit' for my digital wallet Float cards?
Digital wallets and physical tap cards have transaction limits for in-person payments.
CAD Digital Wallet Cards: Tap payments are limited to CAD $250 per transaction, both in Canada and abroad.
USD Digital Wallet Cards: While there is no specific tap limit, transactions over USD $100 made in the US will require a merchant signature at checkout.
Is there a limit to the number of Float cards I can add to my digital wallet?
There is a limit to the number of Float Cards you can add to your digital wallet based on the device you use and the digital wallet platform! Please see below to understand your limit based on your device:
- Apple Wallet (iPhone 8 or later): A maximum of 12 cards can be added to your digital wallet at a time using this device and model. (This is cumulative for Float cards and other cards added)
- Apple Wallet (iPhone 8 earlier): A maximum of 8 cards can be added to your digital wallet at a time using this device and model. (This is cumulative for Float cards and other cards added)
- Google Pay (All devices that support Google Wallets): No Limit
- Samsung Wallet: Samsung Wallet is not currently supported with Float cards. You can download the Google Pay app on all Samsung devices
