You're on this guide because you already have an active NetSuite integration and you're running into issues, such as export failures or sync issues. These are usually caused by your NetSuite role missing permissions that Float needs.
This guide walks you through migrating to Float's managed role, which Float creates and updates going forward, so you stop having to manually edit permissions every time something changes.
Is this the right guide?
Use this guide only if you already have an active NetSuite integration. If you're connecting Float to NetSuite for the first time, use the NetSuite Integration Guide instead.
Please note: This migration keeps your current connection live throughout. You won't lose access to NetSuite exports or syncs while you complete these steps.

How to migrate to the managed role
How to verify your new connection
How to clean up your old connection
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- An administrator-level user on NetSuite
- Either an Administrator or Bookkeeper user role in Float
- Access to your current NetSuite integration in Float (Settings > Accounting Sync)
Please note: Keep your current integration and role in place until you've fully verified the new one works. Don't remove or edit anything on your existing connection during this process — that's your fallback if anything goes wrong.
How to migrate to the managed role
Update your SuiteBundle:
- Navigate to Settings in the left navigation panel
- Click Accounting Sync > NetSuite
- At the top of the page, you will see a prompt to "Install Now"
- You may need to sign in to your NetSuite account first before you can proceed to the next step below
- You may need to sign in to your NetSuite account first before you can proceed to the next step below
- Click Install in NetSuite
- Wait for the bundle status to show green
Some important considerations:
- During installation, you may see the Installed from field display "Sandbox" or "Production"
- This field does not affect your setup, so no action is required based on what appears on your screen
- If you don't see this option, then your SuiteBundle has been updated and you can move to the step below
Add the Float Integration Role (Managed) to Your User:
- In NetSuite, go to Setup > Users/Roles > Manage Users
- Click on your user and wait for the page to load
- Click Edit > navigate to the Access tab in the bottom navigation bar
- Navigate to Roles > add the Float Integration Role (Managed)
- Click Save
Please note: You will now have two Float Integration Roles. Keep your existing Float Integration Role on your user as well. Don't remove it, as you'll need it if you have to fall back to your current connection.
Create an Integration:
- In NetSuite, go to Setup > Integrations > Manage Integrations > New
- Under Name, use something distinct from your existing integration, like Float Integration Role (Managed), so the two are easy to tell apart (please ensure not to name it the same as your current "Float Integration Role")
- Under Authentication:
- Check Token Based Authentication
- Uncheck TBA: Authorization Flow
- Under Oauth 2.0, uncheck Authorization Code Grant
- Click Save and do not navigate away from the page
- Copy the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret
Create an Access Token:
- Go to Setup > Users/Roles > Access Tokens > New
- For Application Name, select the integration you just created (e.g., "Float Integration (Managed)")
- For User, select your user
- For Role, select Float Integration Role (Managed)
- The Token Name will be generated automatically
- Click Save and do not navigate away from the page
- Copy the Token ID and Token Secret
Submit the Float Connection Form:
- Go back to the Float form > enter the new Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, Token ID, and Token Secret
- Click Connect and wait a few seconds for the connection to finish
How to verify your new connection
- Once connected, go back to Float > Settings > Accounting Sync
- Click Sync and confirm your NetSuite data flows into Float without errors
Please note: Don't proceed with cleanup until you've confirmed the new connection is working end-to-end. If anything looks wrong, your original connection is still active and untouched.
How to clean up your old connection
Once you've verified the new connection is working reliably, you can retire the old one:
- In NetSuite, to to Setup > Users/Roles > Access Tokens, find your original token, and revoke it
- Go to Setup > Integrations > Manage Integrations, find your original integration record, and disable it
- Go to Setup > Users/Roles > Manage Users, edit your user, and remove the original Float Integration Role from the Access tab
Please note: We recommend keeping your original connection in place for a period after migrating, so you have a fallback while you confirm everything is stable. Only complete this cleanup once you're confident the managed role is handling exports and syncs correctly.
