If you're here, your organization likely has Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled and requires you to set it up to be able to access your Float account. The process is very quick and easy, and this article breaks it down for you step by step.
⚠️ Note: MFA has to be enabled under security settings for the business by an administrator before users can set up their account MFA. Read more here: Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication
Once an admin has enabled MFA for the business, all users will be prompted to set this up for themselves at the next sign-in attempt from app.floatcard.com.
Float supports only Time-based One-Time-Passcode (TOTP) for MFA. This can be generated either via SMS or using a third-party authenticator app like Google Authenticator.

MFA via Authenticator
To set up MFA using an authenticator, you will first have to download a third-party authenticator app from your mobile app store. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy etc. are all examples of third-party apps that can be used to set this up.
Once the app has been installed and set up:
- Click "Add" or "+" on your authenticator app
- Scan the QR code
- Enter the newly generated 6-digit TOTP
- Click 'Continue'
And thats it! You should be all setup, and if you're ever prompted to enter the code again, head back to your authenticator app to find the newly generated 6-digit code.
MFA via SMS
If you do not wish to download a third-party app and want to set up MFA via SMS, then click "Use text message instead" at the bottom of the page with the QR code.
This will direct you to a screen that shows all available MFA methods at Float. Select 'Text Message'
- Enter your mobile number to receive a 6-digit TOTP
- Click 'Continue'
- You should receive an SMS now with the 6-digit TOTP
- Enter the TOTP in Float to authenticate
And you should be off to the races! The next time you login, if your employer requires you to authenticate, you will receive a TOTP via SMS at the number entered initially.
Pro Tip💡: All MFA texts will be sent from +1 (548) 483-5636 so adding this number to your spender's contact list will ensure the number is never forgotten!
MFA via Security Key
If you wish to use a FIDO Security Key (e.g.: YubiKey) as your authentication method, click "Security Key" when setting up MFA and follow the prompts to connect and activate your Security Key.
Save the recovery code generated at the end of this setup.
Once your FIDO "Security Ke has been set up, you will also be presented with the option of setting up FIDO device biometrics. If your system has device biometrics (e.g.: Fingerprint scanners, Face ID, Windows Hello etc.)
Resetting MFA
In some instances, users may need to reset their MFA! Only primary administrators can reset MFA from within Float at this time.
If you are a spender, manager, bookkeeper or administrator (not primary administrator), and you would like to reset your MFA for your account, please email support@floatcard.com with a copy of your government-issued ID from the same email address you use as your username for your Float account!
