Many businesses hold less on Float than their card spend and payments need. That gap can lead to funding problems and declined transactions. With the Balance Gap promotion (also called the Float Interest Boost), eligible businesses earn an extra 1% annualized interest for 12 months on qualifying balances above their baseline balance.
For full details regarding our interest promotion, please see the Float Interest Boost Promo Terms & Conditions.
What is a balance gap?
A balance gap is the difference between your activity (card spend and payments) and the funds you hold on Float.
Promotion at a glance
-
Who
- Float customers with an active account in good standing that are eligible for Float interest, and whose banking entity is not domiciled in the United States.
- Notifications go out in groups, so every eligible business is reached over the coming weeks. Primary Administrators and Administrators both receive the email. These are two separate user roles.
-
What
- An extra 1% annualized interest rate on top of Float's standard rate, on qualifying balances above your baseline balance.
- Float's standard rate is currently 2.5% for CAD and 2.75% for USD. It is variable and can change at any time. For example, at a standard rate of 2.5%, your rate with the boost is 3.5%.
- It is the same boost offered in the summer, with a new name and message.
-
When
- Enrolment ends on December 31, 2026.
- Your boost lasts 12 months, starting on your enrolment date.
-
Where
- By email. The message differs by customer group, but every version offers the 1% boost.
- You enrol from your Accounts page. You are not enrolled automatically. Once you enrol, your Accounts page shows your interest rate as your standard rate plus 1% (for example, 2.5% + 1%).
-
Why
- Holding enough funds helps cover your card spend and payments, and helps you avoid declines.
-
How it works
- The boost accrues daily and is paid monthly, on the same schedule as your standard Float interest.
- It applies separately to your CAD and USD balances.
- There is no minimum deposit, no fee, and no lock-up period.
-
How many times
- Once per business. You can enrol only one time.
-
What it can't be used for
- It can't extend or restart a boost you already have, even one that is close to ending.
- It may not be combined with certain other promotional or temporary Float offers.
What is a baseline balance?
Your baseline balance is your average daily balance during the baseline period, September 19 to October 18, 2026, rounded down to the nearest $100. It is calculated separately for CAD and USD, and it is fixed when you enrol. It does not reset during your 12 months.
If your business opened its account after the baseline period, your baseline balance is $0. You can see your baseline balance once you enrol.
The extra 1% applies only to net new funds, meaning the part of your balance that sits above your baseline balance. For example, if your baseline balance is $50,000 and you hold $80,000, the extra 1% applies to the $30,000 above your baseline. The first $50,000 earns Float's standard rate.
Eligibility
To take part, your business must meet all of the following when you enrol:
- Have an active Float account in good standing.
- Be eligible to receive Float interest products and services.
- Have a banking entity that is not domiciled in the United States.
- Opt in during an open enrolment window, through Float's enrolment process.
- Comply with all applicable Float terms, policies and legal requirements.
You are not eligible if you are a U.S.-domiciled entity, if your account is suspended, restricted or not in good standing, or if Float determines you are abusing or trying to manipulate the promotion. If your business has several legal entities, eligibility and calculations are handled separately for each one.
How to enrol
Enrolment is opt-in. Enrol from your Accounts page. Your 12-month boost starts on the day you enrol, and enrolment ends on December 31, 2026.
When the boost ends
After 12 months, the extra 1% stops. You keep earning Float's standard interest rate on your eligible balances.
The boost can also end early. Benefits stop immediately if your account is closed, is suspended or restricted, becomes ineligible for Float interest, or breaks Float's terms or policies, or if Float determines there has been fraud, misuse, abuse or manipulation. Float can also correct payments made in error.

Eligibility and enrolment
Who receives the email?
Both Primary Administrators and Administrators. These are two different user roles.
Who is eligible?
Float customers with an active account in good standing, who are eligible for Float interest and whose banking entity is not domiciled in the United States, and who opt in during an open enrolment window. See Eligibility above for the full list.
I did not get the email. Can I still join?
Yes, as long as enrolment is still open (it ends on December 31, 2026) and you meet the eligibility criteria. Enrol from your Accounts page. If you can't see the option, contact Support and we will look into it.
Balances and funding
Do I have to add funds to earn the boost?
No minimum deposit is required to enrol. However, the extra 1% applies only to the part of your balance above your baseline balance, so you earn it on funds you hold above that level. Adding funds also helps you cover your activity and avoid declines.
How is my baseline balance set?
It is your average daily balance during the baseline period, September 19 to October 18, 2026, rounded down to the nearest $100 and calculated separately for CAD and USD. It is fixed when you enrol and does not change during your 12 months. If your business opened its account after the baseline period, your baseline balance is $0.
How do I see my baseline balance?
You need to enrol to see your baseline balance. Enrol from your Accounts page.
Rates, limits and payments
Does the boost apply to both CAD and USD?
Yes. The promotion applies separately to eligible CAD and USD balances, and your baseline and limits are calculated independently for each currency.
Is there a limit on the balance that earns the boost?
Yes. The extra 1% applies to balances up to $25,000,000 CAD and $25,000,000 USD per business entity. Balances above that still earn Float's standard rate.
When is the boost paid?
The boost accrues daily and is paid monthly, on the same schedule as your standard Float interest.
Does the promotion cost anything or lock up my funds?
No. There is no minimum deposit, no subscription or participation fee, and no lock-up period or restriction on access to your funds. No third-party integrations are needed.
Existing boosts, duration and terms
I already have the boost. Can I join again?
No. You can enrol only once. If you enrolled in an earlier window, your baseline balance and 12-month period stay as set at your original enrolment. You will get the already-enrolled version of the email instead.
Can I extend my current boost?
No. The 12 months is the whole boost, and extensions are not offered.
What happens after 12 months?
The extra 1% stops, and you keep earning Float's standard interest rate on your eligible balances.
Is this a new promotion?
It is the same 1% boost offered in the summer, with a new name and message.
Where can I read the terms?
The T&Cs are linked in the emails and available at floatfinancial.com/legal.
