With online fraud on the rise industry-wide, Float is dedicated to ensuring your protection and the integrity of our product and its users. This added layer of security provides enhanced protection for your online payments.
What is 3DS?
3D Secure is an extra security measure designed to protect you when making online payments. It works by sending a one-time passcode to your mobile phone (or email address for CAD cardholders who have not added a mobile phone number) , which you’ll enter during the checkout process.
How do I know if a transaction requires 3DS verification?
If a transaction requires verification you will see the following pop-up as you checkout:
Why does a Float transaction require 3DS?
With online fraud on the rise industry-wide, Float is dedicated to ensuring your protection and the integrity of our product. As such, Float facilitates 3DS verification where required by merchants for higher-risk transactions to validate that you are the one making the purchase and that your card is safe. Some merchants and jurisdictions require 3DS confirmation for all purchases.
I did not get my one-time code, what are my next steps?
If you have added a phone number to your Float account, the one-time code will be sent to you via SMS. CAD cardholders can also receive the one-time code via email if they have not added a phone number. Codes for transactions on USD cards can only be sent via SMS. If you do not receive a code, log in to your Float account and double-check that the phone number or email address is correct. If it was sent via email also check your spam.
For ease of use, we recommend adding your mobile phone number to your Float account so you can receive your secure codes via text instead of email. USD Cardholders must add their mobile phone number in order to complete purchases from merchants who require 3DS verification. The verification field auto-fills to a number ending in 1111 if not updated by the user - if you see this number on a verification prompt then your phone number needs to be updated in Float.
How do I add or change the phone number where the one-time code is sent?
Add or change your phone number on your Float user profile by logging-in to app.floatfinancial.com > click the user profile icon in the upper-right corner > Profile > Edit > complete the security challenge using the one-time code that is sent to your email address > make the changes and Save.
Users can edit their own phone number or an Administrator can modify the phone number on another user's behalf after passing the security challenge. Phone numbers cannot be modified by Float Support.
Will 3DS be required for in-person purchases?
No. 3DS verification is applied only when you are using your card to checkout on online purchases. In-person transactions will see no change in the process.
