When are Funds from Reversed Payments Returned?
Payment Processing Times by Funding Source
Timelines below begin after the bill has been scheduled for payment and funds are authorized for release by an Administrator.
From Float Cash Balance:
- Once processing has begun, payments from your Float Cash Balance typically take 1-2 business days to send to your vendor
- Paying from your Float Cash balance allows payment processing to start immediately (if scheduled before 12 PM ET), with no delays from external bank transfers
- Paying bills directly from your Float Cash balance is up to 4x faster than paying from your bank. Funds held in your pre-funded Float Cash balance will also earn up to 4% interest
From Connected Bank Account:
- Once processing has begun, payments from a connected bank account generally take 3-5 business days to send to your vendor
- Paying from your connected bank account takes longer because the funds must first be withdrawn through the standard EFT, ACH and Wire networks, which are controlled by the external banks
- Payments from Connected Bank Accounts are available to Professional plan and Enterprise plan customers only

Important Considerations on Processing Timelines:
- *For a scheduled payment to begin processing, the authorization of funds release must be done by an Admin. See: Authorizing Funds Release for Bill Payments
- **The time it takes for the payment to be sent to the receiving bank from Float
- *** The receiving bank may apply additional processing time before depositing the payment into the recipient's account. This additional time varies depending on the institution and can take up to 1-3 business days
- For same-day payment processing, the payment must be scheduled before the daily cutoff time
- If the payment is scheduled after the cutoff time, processing will begin on the next business day
- If this is your first bill payment made through Float, our payments partner may take additional time to process the payment to review the bill and the vendor's payment details
Holiday and Weekend Considerations
Bill payments are only processed on business days. If your payment is pre-scheduled on a weekend or bank holiday, it may be delayed until the next business day.
To avoid delays:
- Schedule and authorize payments before holidays
- Use Float Cash balance funding when speed is essential
When are Funds from Reversed Payments Returned?
If a payment fails or is reversed, funds will be returned to your Float balance within 1–3 business days.
