To begin using Float, you'll need to connect your Canadian bank account to fund your Float balance. There are two methods available:
Connect Your Bank via Flinks
This method uses Flinks, a secure financial data provider. Float does not have access to your banking credentials during this process.
Steps to Connect Your Bank:
-
Access Bank Connections:
- Log in to your Float account.
- Navigate to the Banking section and select Bank Accounts.
- Click on Connect Bank.
-
Select Your Bank:
- A Flinks pop-up will appear.
- Choose your bank from the list.
-
Some business accounts may have specific prefixes or suffixes. If you don't see your bank, try different variations or contact Float support.

Authenticate:
- Enter your banking credentials as prompted.
- Flinks will process the connection in the background.
- You can continue using Float; you'll receive an email once the connection is successful.
-
Set Primary Account:
- After connection, you'll be prompted to select your primary account for funding, from Banking > Bank Connections > "Set Funding Source"
- If the transit number isn't captured, you'll need to enter it manually. You'll be prompted to do so when setting the funding source.
- If the currency is incorrect, click the three vertical dots next to the bank connection and adjust accordingly.
Manual Bank Connection
If your bank isn’t listed or the automated connection fails, you can use the manual bank connection method. This process requires assistance from Float support.
Steps to Set Up a Manual Bank Connection:
-
Email support@floatfinancial.com to request a manual bank connection. Attach the following documents or upload them to Settings > Business Documents > Extra Documents.
- A void cheque or direct deposit form for the account you want to connect.
- The most recent bank statement for that account.
- Float Support will enable the manual connection process in your account.
- Log-in to Float and go to Banking > Manually Connect. You’ll be prompted to enter:
-
- Institution Number
- Transit Number
- Account Number
-
-
Float will send a micro-deposit (less than $3) to your account within 1-3 business days.
-
When you receive this deposit, return to Float and go to Banking > Bank Connections > Verify Connection. Enter the exact amount of the micro-deposit to complete the connection!
Once your bank account is connected you're ready to fund your Float balance! See: Funding Overview for more information.
If you encounter any issues during the connection process, reach out to Float support at support@floatfinancial.com for assistance.
